Music in Communities Award Nomination Posted 15/08/08 Below are the judges comments on our award nomination - “The two talented leaders behind this project have taken their passion, skills and commitment and turned them into an economic force in this remote community. Here, music also plays a critical role in delivering the school curriculum and boosting school attendances. It is a wonderful project.” Indonesia Residency Posted 10/12/06 Yilila have just received a residency in Eastern Indonesia that has been initiated by Asialink, Melbourne, and the Kelola Foundation, Jakarta. We will travel to Indonesia over the next year to develop a partnership between our remote community Numbulwar, Australia, and traditional musicians from villages in Flores, Indonesia. We think this will be a great chance to encourage traditional music from Australia and Indonesia and work on some fresh new sounds through cross cultural music. Yilila's traditional and band music came from Indonesia hundreds of years ago. Now Yilila can go to Indonesia to revitalise and take the next step in their ongoing music & dance relationship between Eastern Indonesia and Arnhem Land, Australia.
